Knowing how to display kids’ artwork can be difficult. Often your child’s creations cycle from fridge frames to closet clutter faster than relatives can say, “Look how tall you’ve grown!” Instead of banishing cherished drawings and paintings to the attic to collect dust, why not store your children’s artwork and masterpieces in a beautiful photo book that doubles as a delightful coffee table tome and nostalgic keepsake?
With the help of your kids, who provide brand new art pieces they made at school weekly, scan in all of their art pieces, including some of our favourites: mermaid masterpiece, Hawaiian sunset painting, watercolour of cats sailing a boat (you know, as cats do), and more. You can easily create an 8×8″ Photo Book to store my children’s artwork, to give their art collection a slick portfolio feel. You could even create a canvas print with your absolute favourites! Who says kid art can’t be gallery quality?

3 Steps To Display Kids Artwork
Here are some tips to create your own childhood art book to display your kids’ artwork:
- Scan + edit artwork: To start storing your children’s artwork, first scan your favourite art pieces into a computer. You can always pare down the collection later by selecting your favourites. If art is too large to scan (like this Raggedy Ann crayon masterpiece), take a photo from a bird’s-eye perspective. Upload into a photo editing tool and crop to the desired size. Play with contrast and brightness to achieve the same vivid colour in your art piece, as I did in the below sunset painting, so you can store your children’s artwork as accurately as possible.
- Select layout and caption: Once you’ve scanned your artwork, it’s time for the exciting bit! Display one painting or drawing per page to achieve a crisp portfolio aesthetic. Choose your favourite photo layout, and we’ll do the work for you, or just drag-and-drop your photo onto the page. Why not caption each photo, including age and the year the artwork was completed? We love to opt for a kid-like scrawl font for the font to capture the essence of your children’s artwork. If you have any absolute favourites, why not turn it into a gift for a loved one? Personalised notebooks, fun playing cards or photo placemats all make good choices!
- Create cover + spine: Finally, create a collage of your favourite paintings for the cover (see above), and include a photo of the artist, too! Add the year(s) to the spine to label each album to complete the perfectly store your children’s artwork
